Cape Town Cycle Tour

With the Cape Town Cycle Tour  scheduled to take place on the 9th March 2025. You may think that you’ve got forever and a day to sort out a rental bike, but the truth is, if you want to rent a bike for the Cape Argus (as the event was previously known) you need to do it sooner rather than later.

Bike rentals are widely available in Cape Town, but with over 35,000 cyclists descending on the Mother City for the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour Race, it is no surprise that they sell-out like hot cakes. If you intend to enter the race don't wait too long!

Our bike rentals are new, full carbon and well maintained. At BicycleRentals.co.za  we have a wide variety of road bikes: 9 full carbon road bikes (size 50 -  60).

Terms and conditions

Road Bikes - Please note there is a minimum 7 day rental period for the CTCT - ie minimum 7 consecutive days. Payment is required within 48 hours of confirmation of provisional booking (no cash payment!).

Only confirmed bookings will be allocated bikes.

Cape Town Cycle Tour

Cancellation

All payments made for the Cape Town Cycle Tour will be forfeited if your booking is cancelled for any reason from your side. However if the Cape Town Cycle Tour is cancelled, we will refund 75% of the total amount paid.

Please note - we are not responsible for race entries. We do not enter people - we only rent out bikes and organize cycle tours. It is your own responsibility to enter directly yourself.

 

Cape Town Cycle Tour FAQ

If you start your search early, and by early, I mean now, then yes, it is easy to rent a bike for the cycle tour. We can provide you with a high-quality Carbon Road Bike, but we have a limited number of each frame size, and so unless you are super tall or super short, you have to get in fast, before the other 5,000 internationals beat you to it.
It’s not cheap. In 2024, the average cost to rent a carbon road bike for the Cape Argus was R7,500 South African Rand (approximately / €375). Why is it so expensive? Well, demand and supply play a role here, most rental companies have a 7-day minimal rental over Argus Weekend, and so if you think you can rent a bike for a day or two, think again! We charge between 1000-1500 a day (depending on which model) with a minimum rental period of 7 days.
Our rentals include the bike itself, a helmet, a repair kit and pedals (or we put on yours, you need to state this at the time of booking). We delivery to your hotel and pick up the bike after your race. We deliver and pick up the bike for FREE in Cape Town.
This should be clarified at the time of making your booking. We have 20 high-quality Trek carbon road bikes for rent. Besides the Trek bikes we have several Specialized rentals. All bikes are very well maintained (we have our own workshop). You are welcome to ask us any questions about your rental, like, how old is the bike, what gearing does it have, and what spares and accessories (pedals, helmet, inner tubes etc.) are included. If in doubt, we send you a photo of the bike we have allocated for you.
You have the option to pay by credit card (Pay Fast) or by bank transfer and both options are completely safe. We do not accept cash payments for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
We will ask you to sign a form when collecting the bike, making you fully liable for any damage and we require an imprint of your credit card as a form of ‘security’ against damage and theft. Please read the small print and make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.
If you heading to South Africa for the race and intend to stay in the Mother City for the duration of your stay, then yes, you should take your own bike with you. But if you intend to combine the Cycle Tour with a safari, a trip to the Winelands, or a self-drive adventure up the Garden Route, it makes sense to rent a bike. It will cost you roughly the same amount to transport your bike to Cape Town as it will cost to rent a bike in the city.
