A fairly flat and fast course, this race is a first-timer and club favourite.

Ironman 70.3 Durban bike course

The two-loop 90 km (56 mile) bike course is fast and undulating. The bike course consists of two laps on the M4 highway between SUNCOAST Casino/ M17 and the Umdloti/ M27 intersections. (Access from T1 to the M4 highway is via the beachfront promenade and the Moses Mabhida Stadium pedestrian underpass). Maps are subject to change.

Frequently asked questions

If you start your search early, and by early, I mean now, then yes, it is easy to rent a bike for the cycle tour. We can provide you with a high-quality Carbon Road bike, but we have a limited number of each frame size, so unless you are super tall or super short, you have to get in fast, before the other internationals beat you to it.
That depends on which model you choose and which race you are planning to do. We have to courier the bikes from Stellenbosch, which is 450 km from Mosselbay, 750 km from Port Elizabeth and 1700 km from Durban. To be sure that your bike will be on time, we send them 3 days prior your arrival and it takes a minimum of 3 days to get the bikes back to Stellenbosch. The bikes will be out between 8-10 days. We also service the bikes the day before we courier them and guarantee that no one else is riding your bike till you receive it!
The ironman package includes the bike itself, a helmet, a puncture repair kit, pedals and tools. All bikes are serviced before your race, have 2 bottle cages and a Garmin mount for a bike computer. Tri bars can be mounted on the bikes for an additional R500. We delivery and pick up (the day after the race) the bike from your hotel.
This should be clarified at the time of making your booking. We have 40 high-quality Trek carbon road bikes. All bikes are well maintained and will be charged and serviced before your race. You are welcome to ask us any questions about your rental, like, how old is the bike, what gearing does it have, and what spares and accessories (pedals, helmet, water bottle, inner tubes etc.) are included. If in doubt, we send you a photo of the bike we have allocated for you.
To confirm your reservation, you will need to leave a deposit (50%) or pay the total amount in full. You have the option to pay by credit card (Payfast) or by bank transfer.
We will ask you to sign a form when collecting the bike, making you fully liable for any damage.
All payments made for an ironman event will be forfeited if your booking is cancelled for any reason from your side. There are limited road bikes available for events in South Africa and we have huge costs for organising transport of the bikes to the events. However if the Ironman is cancelled, we will refund 75% of the total amount paid. Please note - we are not responsible for race entries. We do not enter people - we only rent out bikes and transport the bikes to the event. It is your own responsibility to enter directly yourself.
