We offer a range of Trek carbon road bikes in different sizes, including models with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting. Tri bars can be fitted to suitable bikes for riders who prefer a more aerodynamic position.

Frequently Asked Questions

For IRONMAN 70.3 Mossel Bay, we personally deliver your bike in Mossel Bay before race weekend. After the race, collect your bike and equipment from transition and bring everything to our agreed collection point outside transition. We aim to collect the bikes on race day once transition opens for bike collection.
Your bike rental includes everything you need for a worry-free race weekend: Helmet Spare tube Puncture repair kit Tyre levers and basic tools Small pump Garmin/Wahoo computer mount Your choice of SPD-SL, SPD, Look Keo or flat pedals You are also welcome to bring your own pedals and helmet if you prefer. Tri bars and electronic shifting (Di2) are available as optional upgrades and are not included in the standard rental price. All bikes are checked and prepared before the rental, and we strongly recommend doing a short test ride before race day to check your position, pedals, shifting and equipment.
We accept payment by credit/debit card through PayFast or by EFT/bank transfer. All payments are made in South African Rand (ZAR). Your bike is only reserved once payment has been received. If you receive a payment link or banking details for a provisional booking, please make payment within the specified time to secure the bike. For larger bookings, EFT/bank transfer is preferred as it avoids additional card processing fees.
IRONMAN bike rentals require considerable advance planning. Bikes are reserved specifically for each athlete, and we arrange event logistics, transport and, where applicable, Bicycle Couriers well in advance. For this reason, a stricter cancellation policy applies to all IRONMAN bookings: 30 days or more before the rental: 100% refund, less payment/transaction fees. 14–29 days before the rental: 50% refund or a 100% rental voucher valid for 12 months. Less than 14 days before the rental: no refund. Once a bike has been dispatched by Bicycle Couriers: no refund, including courier or transport costs already incurred. No-shows: no refund.
Yes. Tri bars can be added for R500 per booking, and we will mount them on the bike for you before delivery. Tri-bar positioning is very personal and depends on your riding position and preferences. For this reason, we install the tri bars loosely enough for you to easily adjust the position yourself after receiving the bike. Important: After adjusting the tri bars, always make sure that all bolts are properly tightened before riding. Never ride the bike with the tri bars still loose. Tri bars can be fitted to most of our road bikes, but compatibility depends on the bike model, size and handlebar setup. We recommend requesting tri bars when making your booking, especially for IRONMAN events, as availability is limited.
Don't worry, we can send the bike (in the box) to a bike shop as close as possible to your accommodation. They can build the bike for you and will box the bike for you after the race (the box stays there). Costs of this service are NOT included and need to be paid directly to the bike shop. Normally it's around R500- R600. Please let us know in advance if you want us to send the bike to a bike shop, so we can make an appointment for it.
When BicycleRentals.co delivers the bike to you personally, we will help you install your pedals and assist with the basic bike setup, such as saddle height and making sure everything is working correctly. Please note that this is not a professional bike fit. If you have specific measurements or bike-fit settings, please bring them with you so we can help you replicate your normal position as closely as possible. For events where your bike is transported by Bicycle Couriers, it will arrive securely packed in a bike box. Basic assembly is straightforward and normally takes around 15 minutes. If you prefer professional assistance, we can arrange for the bike to be delivered directly to a bike shop where possible. For IRONMAN Durban, we can send the bike directly to Solomon’s Cycles. They can receive and assemble the bike, keep the bike box during your rental, and pack the bike again after the race for the return courier. The bike shop charges approximately R450 for assembly and R450 for packing. These costs are not included in your rental and must be paid directly to the bike shop. Please note that Solomon’s Cycles is closed on Sundays, so collection and return arrangements need to be planned accordingly.
Yes. You are welcome to bring your own pedals and helmet. We can fit your pedals when we personally deliver the bike. If your bike is sent by Bicycle Couriers, you can install your pedals when setting up the bike. If you prefer to use our pedals, we have SPD-SL, SPD, Look Keo and flat pedals available. For racing, we generally recommend bringing your own pedals and helmet if possible, as these are items you are already familiar and comfortable with.
Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Your rental period is planned so that you have time to ride the bike before the race. Please complete a test ride after receiving and setting up the bike. During your test ride, check your saddle height, pedals, gears, brakes and general riding position. If you are using tri bars, make sure you are comfortable with their position and that all bolts are properly tightened before riding. If something doesn’t feel right, please contact us as soon as possible and not on race morning. This gives us the best chance to help you before the event.
You are responsible for the bike and all supplied equipment during your rental period. Normal wear and tear is expected and is not charged. However, damage caused by crashes, accidents, incorrect use or negligence may be charged to the renter. If you crash or notice any damage or mechanical problem, please contact us immediately. Do not continue riding if you think the bike may be unsafe. Please do not take the bike to a workshop or authorise repairs or replacement parts without contacting us first, unless it is an emergency and you cannot reach us. For race rentals, we recommend checking the bike after your test ride and letting us know about any issue before race day.
All bikes are checked and prepared before your rental, but mechanical problems can occasionally happen. If you notice a problem, contact us as soon as possible so we can advise you on the best solution. Please do not authorise expensive repairs or replacement parts without speaking to us first. Your rental includes a spare tube, puncture kit, tyre levers, basic tools and a small pump for minor roadside problems. If you are renting a bike with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting, please pay attention to the battery. The bike will be supplied with a charged battery, but always check the battery level before race day. Be careful when storing or parking the bike. Do not lean the bike against a wall or other object in a way that continuously presses one of the shift buttons. This can keep triggering the electronic shifting and drain the Di2 battery without you noticing. During IRONMAN events we will always try to assist where reasonably possible, but we cannot guarantee immediate mechanical support, particularly during the race itself.
When booking, please provide your height and, if possible, your inseam measurement. We will use this information to help select the most suitable bike size for you. If you know your usual saddle height, that is very helpful and makes setting up your rental bike even easier. When we personally deliver your bike, we can help with basic adjustments such as saddle height and pedal setup. Please note that this is not a professional bike fit. We strongly recommend completing a short test ride before race day so you can make any small adjustments and get comfortable with the bike.
Yes. If you prefer to race with your own saddle, you are welcome to use it on the rental bike. Please let us know in advance if you plan to change the saddle. When we personally deliver the bike, we can help install it and adjust the saddle height. If your bike is delivered by Bicycle Couriers, you can change the saddle yourself or have a bike shop assist you. Please keep the original rental-bike saddle and all fittings safely, as they must be returned with the bike. Do not cut or modify the seatpost or any other component on the rental bike.
Absolutely. You are welcome to bring your own pedals, helmet, saddle, bike computer and bottles. When we personally deliver the bike, we can help you fit your pedals and make basic adjustments. Our bikes have a Garmin/Wahoo compatible computer mount, but because there are many different computers and mounting systems, please check that your device fits during your test ride. If you prefer not to travel with pedals or a helmet, these are also included with your rental.
For events where your bike is sent by Bicycle Couriers, we may ask you to provide proof of your IRONMAN race registration before the bike is dispatched. This helps us verify the booking and ensures that the bike is being sent to the registered athlete participating in the event. A race registration confirmation or other official proof of entry is sufficient. Please send this to us when requested. We cannot dispatch the bike by courier until the required verification has been completed.
