Description

Ride one of the world’s most spectacular coastal roads.

Our Chapman’s Peak cycling tours take you along Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline, through Camps Bay and Hout Bay and across the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive. Choose from three different routes, from a shorter scenic ride to a challenging 120 km Cape Peninsula tour.

All tours include a carbon Trek road bike, helmet, pedals, puncture equipment, experienced cycling guide and coffee stop. Specialized Creo E-road bikes are available for an additional R500.

Chapman's Peak Cycling Tour – Approx. 30–60 km

Cape Town → Camps Bay → Hout Bay → Chapman’s Peak → Noordhoek Farm Village → Chapman’s Peak → Hout Bay → Camps Bay → Cape Town

Our shorter Chapman's Peak cycling tour focuses on one of the absolute highlights of cycling in Cape Town: the spectacular Chapman's Peak Drive.

Starting in Cape Town, we follow the Atlantic coastline through Camps Bay and Hout Bay before riding over the world-famous Chapman’s Peak. We continue to Noordhoek Farm Village, where we stop for a relaxed coffee before turning around.

We then ride Chapman’s Peak for a second time and follow the beautiful coastal road back through Hout Bay and Camps Bay.

The distance can be adjusted by choosing a different starting point:

  • Cape Town: approximately 60 km
  • Camps Bay: approximately 45 km
  • Hout Bay: approximately 30 km

This is the perfect option for riders looking for a shorter, scenic Cape Town cycling experience without missing the iconic Chapman’s Peak.

Red Hill Route – Approx. 75–100 km

Cape Town → Camps Bay → Hout Bay → Chapman’s Peak → Red Hill → Scarborough → Noordhoek → Chapman’s Peak → Hout Bay → Camps Bay → Cape Town

The Red Hill Route is a spectacular middle-distance option for riders who want more than the shorter Chapman’s Peak ride without taking on the full 120 km Cape Peninsula route.

Starting in Cape Town, we follow the Atlantic coastline through Camps Bay and Hout Bay before riding over the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. From there, we continue towards Red Hill, with beautiful views across the southern Cape Peninsula.

We descend towards Scarborough and the wild Atlantic coastline before continuing to Noordhoek. After a relaxed coffee stop, we ride Chapman’s Peak for a second time and follow the coastal road through Hout Bay and Camps Bay back to Cape Town.

The distance can be adjusted by choosing a different starting point:

  • Cape Town: approximately 100 km
  • Camps Bay: approximately 90 km
  • Hout Bay: approximately 75 km

This is an excellent option for riders looking for a challenging but manageable Cape Peninsula ride, combining Chapman’s Peak, Red Hill and some of the most beautiful coastal scenery around Cape Town.

Full Cape Peninsula Route – Approx. 90–120 km

Cape Town → Camps Bay → Hout Bay → Chapman’s Peak → Simon’s Town → Smitswinkel → Scarborough → Noordhoek → Chapman’s Peak → Hout Bay → Cape Town

Our full Cape Peninsula route covers approximately 120 km and showcases some of the most spectacular cycling roads around Cape Town.

Starting in Cape Town, we follow the Atlantic coastline through Camps Bay and Hout Bay before crossing the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive. From there, we continue towards Simon’s Town and Smitswinkel, before turning towards Scarborough and the wild Atlantic coastline.

After a well-earned coffee stop, we ride through Noordhoek and cross Chapman’s Peak for a second time, finishing with the beautiful coastal ride back to Cape Town.

The distance can be adjusted by choosing a different starting point:

  • Cape Town: approximately 120 km
  • Camps Bay: approximately 105 km
  • Hout Bay: approximately 90 km

For riders who would like a little extra assistance, we also have a small fleet of Specialized Creo E-road bikes. These are a great option for less experienced or less fit riders who still want to enjoy the full tour together with the group.

Which Route Should I Choose?

With three different routes and several starting points, we can adapt the tour to your fitness level, cycling experience and preferred distance.

Recreational & less experienced riders
Chapman’s Peak Route: 30–60 km | approx. 500–900 m elevation

The shorter Chapman’s Peak Route is ideal if you want to enjoy Cape Town’s spectacular coastal scenery without a long or demanding day on the bike. An E-road bike is also available if you would like some extra assistance on the climbs.

Intermediate riders
Red Hill Route: 75–100 km | approx. 1,200–1,600 m elevation

The Red Hill Route adds more distance and climbing, including the beautiful Red Hill climb, while still leaving plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and a relaxed coffee stop.

Experienced & strong cyclists
Full Cape Peninsula Route: 90–120 km | approx. 1,500–2,000 m elevation

Our Full Cape Peninsula Route is the most complete and challenging option, taking in some of the best cycling roads around the Cape Peninsula.

Choose Your Starting Point

All three routes can start and finish in Cape Town, Camps Bay or Hout Bay.

Choosing Camps Bay or Hout Bay as your starting point reduces the total distance, making it easy to select a route that matches your fitness level and preferred riding distance.

Starting from Muizenberg, Kalk Bay or Simon’s Town is also possible on request, but availability cannot always be guaranteed. When starting from one of these locations, we will use an alternative Cape Peninsula route that still includes the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive.

Please contact us before booking if you would like to start from Muizenberg, Kalk Bay or Simon’s Town.

Coffee Stop

Every tour includes a relaxed coffee stop along the route, giving us time to refuel and enjoy the scenery.

Depending on the selected route and wind conditions, we will stop at one of our favourite cafés in Noordhoek, Simon’s Town or Scarborough.

Frequently asked questions

A full carbon road bike, a helmet, and a puncture kit are included. We also included a coffee (half way). We pick you up at your hotel within a 10 km range of Stellenbosch and Paarl. We only pick up cyclists from Cape Town when we start the ride in Cape Town.
This should be clarified at the time of making your booking. We have some high-quality Trek and Specialized carbon road bikes for rent. All bikes are well maintained. You are welcome to ask us any questions about your rental, like, how old is the bike, what gearing does it have, and what spares and accessories (pedals, helmet, water bottle, inner tubes etc.) are included. If in doubt, we send you a photo of the bike we have allocated for you.
To confirm your reservation, you will need to pay the total amount in full. You have the option to pay by credit card (Pay Fast) or by EFT (electronic bank transfer). We accept cash for last minute bookings, but your ride is only confirmed once full payment has been made.
We will ask you to sign a form when collecting the bike, making you fully liable for any damage and we require an imprint of your credit card as a form of ‘security’ against damage and theft. Please read the small print and make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.
